Paula is way beyond just color and proportion. She always gets it right. My husband used to think he had perfect design sensibilities. But now he fully admits that Paula is far better.
Paula Perlini has been bringing tasteful and practical interior designs to her residential clients in New York City, Boston, Palm Beach, Washington, D.C., Martha’s Vineyard, Europe, Mexico and numerous other locations for more than twenty years.
She develops her designs by listening carefully to how her clients plan to use their homes and works with them in assuring that the final results uniquely reflect their life styles.
She was the lead designer for Mark Hampton and worked with him as project manager on several major projects such as Blair House, The President’s Guest House in Washington DC and Gracie Mansion in New York
She was president of Perlini-Tanksley Associates for six years where she also worked on major redesigns such as Number One Observatory Circle, (the Vice-Presidential Residence in the grounds of the U.S. Naval Observatory) before establishing her own business in 1993.
Paula’s professional experience has led her to use a variety of colors in her designs which produce rich, inviting living spaces. Her designs for specialty floors, unique curtain treatments and mastery of blending various furniture styles and periods, produce extremely comfortable and memorable rooms.
Paula is a graduate of the Academia de Belle Arte in Rome. Her work has been widely published in leading magazines such as House Beautiful, Traditional Home, British House & Garden, New England Home and she has appeared in several books.
Paula worked with Mark Hampton for nine years when she returned to NYC. He was her mentor, her boss, her friend and also her brother-in-law. Mark taught her about furniture placement, among a million other things, and introduced her to the best workrooms in the City.
Paula wins the respect and loyalty of clients with excellent resources and strong creativity. When one client wanted to wait to find the ultimate Oriental rug, Perlini had a facsimile of a Sultanbad design carpet painted on sisal. Now the client considers the sisal rug one of her favorite possessions.
Perlini is known for her intermingling of the fine and the found, creating friendly environments comfortable for adults, children, and pets alike. Rooms tend to be quite traditional, with distinct colors offering depth and character.
While Perlini usually encourages the client to invest in some excellent upholstery and some interesting antique accents, she is good about designing custom repo casegoods to help meet the budget.
“I would define her style as classic, but with an eye for practicality and freshness.”
“We have learned to totally trust her judgment.”
“The workmen she brings to the job are of the highest quality–both as artisans and responsible businesses.”
“While Paula has her own definitive taste, she was open to my definitive style as well.”
“Paula can find a treasure among random things in the garage. She has such an eye.”
“We always have either a small project or a large project going on with Paula.”
“We have never had to ask her to take back a thing.”
Paula is so much fun. It is a gift to be around her.
